Fari Dao Alchemist
Hakim Tafari known to many as “Fari Daoist” is the newest edition to this ever expanding label known as NONSENSE, bringing a different experience of hip hop through the mystic itations of Rastafari aswell as the ancient teachings of the east known as the Dao (Tao). Hakim’s background in music started way back from when he lived in England. Born from Jamaican parents and living in the U.K. his influences ranges from old classic roots “rockers” reggae, ska, soul and of course jazz, and is evident when you hear his music.
Starting to rhyme at local events in England led his drive when coming stateside in '92, after a short in NYC. Hakim moved to Austin TX where he would forge his name as one of the pioneers for hip hop for many years, helping build the scene with his partner Traygod and blowing crowds known to many as X-FACTOR, opening for Big Pun, Gravediggas, Masta Ace, The Roots... the list goes on. After moving to Florida in '98 Hakim was to pursue higher levels of natural healing, he became very disillusioned with the music industry and was like a hermit in the mountains studying the lessons of the ancients, while others rejoiced in the whole bling bling era. Jan 2004 two months after his baby, Nyah was born Hakim dropped a independent guerilla style album called “The Fari Daoist Classics Vol 1” , in which he and defunct group Balance Theory created a mystical masterpiece blending hip hop, rastafari and tai ji principles in a musical soundscape. Selling it out the trunk the album has created a powerful buzz due to guerilla style hustling such as t-shirts (thanks to Aaron@ the Vegan Hotdog stand) local college radio interviews and local shows. Currently in the studio working on two new projects, “The Fari Daoists Classics Vol II” and the ITATION SOUND mixtape CD.
